South Sefton residents and organisations are being invited to get involved in Bootle’s entry in the prestigious 2022 Royal Horticultural Society North West In Bloom event.
This will be the town’s third entry in the competition and the team behind Bootle In Bloom want it to be bigger and better than ever before.
For this reason they’re looking for local people to back the entry by volunteering, and businesses and other organisations to get involved by donating plants or offering sponsorship support.
Bootle received a bronze award for its first-ever entry in the competition back in 2019 and hoped to go one better the following year.
However, as the 2020 competition was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, the team of residents, community gardeners and voluntary organisations had to wait until last year to achieve silver award success.
The team – facilitated by local charity and social enterprise Regenerus and supported by Green Sefton – pulled together a 2021 judging route that included a wide range of attractive features.
The programme included some amazing alleyways, community gardens, wildflower meadows and local heritage areas, and finished with a walk along the canal, with team members being delighted to receive a silver award as a result.
Now the aim is to repeat this success – and if possible go one better – in the 2022 competition.
Ruth Livesey of Regenerus commented: “Bootle is of course a very urban environment, but the In Bloom team focused on the possibilities for adding beauty and colour to our streets, and were thrilled to be recognised by the judges for their efforts.
“However, just as important as creating beautiful green spaces is the community spirit and pride that working on the project generated among those involved, and the many new friendships that were forged along the way.
“For all these reasons we’re hoping that many Bootle residents and locally based organisations will want to lend their support to our 2022 entry and fly the flag for the town,” added Ruth.
