New wildflower sites in Poets Park – April 2026

We are delighted that the National Lottery Fund has awarded us a grant to make a start on some of the environmental improvements that local people told us they’d like to see when we completed our Nature in Linacre community research.

We received so many suggestions that we needed to prioritise and the Community Open Day at St Leonard’s Youth & Community Centre in April gave us the perfect opportunity to ask for help.

Wildflowers got the most votes, and as spring is the perfect time to establish new plots, we made a plan with Green Sefton to introduce three new sites in Poets Park, adding to the da

ffodils and cherry blossom, so that the park will be full of colour from early spring to the end of summer.

Green Sefton prepared the plots with the stone burier and then Taking Root volunteers were joined by members of People First Merseyside and children representing the eco-council at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, and from All Saintts Catholic Primary School, to sow wildflower seeds. Many hands definitely do make lighter work, and everyone had a wonderful day in the sunshine.

Bootle’s wildflower meadow trail is growing and you can explore our mosaic of wildflower plots across 13 different sites. Follow the map here
