Finding out more about green framework – March 2026

At our spring Taking Root get-together we were delighted to welcome Lucy Stowell-Smith from Groundwork who presented the Green Infrastructure Framework by Natural England, and shared insights focusing on what we can think about when we are delivering community growing activities. This ranges from thinking about why people might decide to get involved, to innovative growing structures which take account of sustainability, and lots of ideas about what we might plant.

This is the time of year when we start thinking about planting, but first it’s time for a bit of a spring clean. Despite the weather being a bit miserable, Taking Root in Bootle’s Friday Tidy team have been out weeding and tidying, tasks made more bearable as the spring bulbs that we’ve planted added splashes of colour from Wordsworth Street, as can be seen here, to Poets Park and in the planters along Washington Parade.

If you’d like to join us get in touch – just email takingrootinbootle@gmail.com. We meet on Friday mornings between 10am and 12 noon to green the streets of Bootle, and we finish with refreshments.
