Celebrating at Shelley Street Community Garden – July 2024

Built with support from Riverside Foundation and Linacre Ward members at Sefton Council, the Shelley Street Community Garden is looking fabulous after all the hard work the volunteers have put in, so it was time to celebrate.
Installation of a lean-to shelter, with guttering feeding into water butts to harvest rainwater, solved the challenge of there being no water supply on site.
Meeting regularly, the group have planted up the raised beds, and added pots, troughs and small beds dug directly into the ground for root vegetables.
Everyone is now looking forward to onions, garlic, courgettes, lettuce, tomatoes and potatoes, and getting creative the group have even planted up a bin that was left at the site with strawberry plants.
With food, family-friendly activities and information about how to get involved, we invited everyone along.
