Meadow maintenance with the community’s help – October 2025

Taking Root volunteers spent a session neatening the edges of the meadow sites at Asda and Poets Park and a week later, after Green Sefton completed the ground prep, we sowed fresh seeds at four wildflower sites (Peter Mahon Way, Asda, North Park and Peel Road Park) to top up the meadows. We used the same butterflies and bees mix, which contains both perennials and annuals, to bring a splash of colour. This was all achieved with the help of community members and two different classes from All Saints Catholic Primary School who made the sowing a lot easier.

Bootle now boasts 13 urban wildflower meadow sites – pick up a plant identification leaflet from Regenerus and visit https://www.regenerus.org.uk/wildflower-meadows/ to find a link to the map and follow the wildflower trail next summer.
