Wildflower seed harvesting and drying

October 2021

Our wildflower meadows may have finished flowering, but the work doesn’t stop there.

Our Head North Wildflower Rangers got to learn about large and small-scale seed harvesting this month. Shadowing Richard Scott from the National Wildflower Centre, we observed the combine harvester collecting seed in local fields. We then hand-harvested seed from some of our Bootle and North Liverpool sites.

The team then spent the rest of the month helping to spread and rake the seed on a weekly basis, ensuring it dries out well before we start bagging it towards the end of the year, ready for sowing next spring.
