This was completely new to Sefton, but the programme had proved successful elsewhere in moving people from long-term unemployment back into work.
Consisting of a half-day session a week for six weeks, or one day a week for three weeks, the free programmes helped south Sefton residents to build their confidence and self-esteem, challenge their internal fears and plan for future success.
The free courses were planned to fit in with school hours and all training materials and refreshments were provided.
They proved very successful – more than 80 per cent of participants went on to employment, further training or volunteering opportunities.
