Bootle Climate Action Festival returns for second year

A Bootle festival that puts the spotlight on ‘green’ measures that can help to protect the local community, and contribute towards saving the planet, is returning for a second year later this week.

The 2023 Bootle Climate Action Festival will take place between 12 noon and 4pm on Thursday 14th September at Salt & Tar at Bootle Canalside, next to the Strand Shopping Centre between Stanley Road and Washington Parade.

The event is being organised by Bootle-based social enterprise Regenerus and the Taking Root in Bootle community gardening network.

The event is being supported by Sefton Council’s Linacre Ward councillors, and sponsored by eco printers The Printroom UK.

The VIP guests at the event will be Wombles Orinoco and Great Uncle Bulgaria who will be helping out with litter picking at the site.

Among a host of attractions at the festival will be cooking demonstrations to show what can be created with surplus fresh produce. Visitors will be able to try the food on the day, and take away a bag of ingredients to cook up at home later.

Green-fingered Bootle residents with a favourite plant are being encouraged to take a cutting or harvest seeds from it, bring them along and swap them for something else that takes their fancy at the festival plant library.

Meanwhile, visitors will also be able to learn more about the role of nature in protecting our climate, with demonstrations of beekeeping and worm composting.

And the Living Well Sefton smoothie bikes will also be in attendance at the event, giving visitors the opportunity to use their energy to make the smoothies of their choice with fruit provided by the Asda community team.

Free bike checks to encourage cycle use will also be on offer, as will free LED light bulbs and other eco giveaways.

The festival will also feature exhibitions, displays and demonstrations on ‘green’ topics including recycling well, saving energy, healthy eating and cutting down food waste, growing your own food and shopping local, and how to make useful new things out of old plastic.

Ruth Livesey of Regenerus commented: “We’re very excited that the Bootle Climate Action Festival is returning in September.

“It’s going to be bigger and better than last year, and will feature even more opportunities for local residents to find out more about how we can all make a difference in terms of preventing climate change.

“We’re hoping for good weather, and a very good turnout on the day,” added Ruth.
