FREE COURSE WILL OFFER EXPERT ADVICE TO YOUNG WOULD-BE ENTREPRENEURS IN WIRRAL
Young people in Wirral who want to work for themselves are being offered some expert advice on entrepreneurship on a free course that begins in the borough in early June.
Award-winning Merseyside business support organisation Regenerus is running the five-week course for 18 to 24-year-olds in partnership with Merseyside Youth Association, as part of the European-funded Talent Match programme.
The Be Your Own Boss Course course gets under way on Monday 6th June from 10am-3pm at Wirral Media Centre on Twickenham Drive in Leasowe, and continues every Monday for the following four weeks.
According to Regenerus Chair, Sefton Councillor John Fairclough, the course is aimed at young would-be entrepreneurs who want to set up their own businesses for a variety of reasons.
While some may have hit upon a great idea to fill a gap in the market, others may have a particular talent or skill they want to sell, or be passionate about providing a specific service.
“Whatever the impetus, the aim of this course is to give participants the knowledge, skills and contacts they needs to get their business ideas off the ground,” explained Councillor Fairclough.
Key elements of the Talent Match package include expert advice on participants’ business ideas, practical help with developing an image and brand and tips that will help young people to lose their fear of finance.
Participants will have the opportunity to hear at first hand from someone who has already taken the leap to start their own business.
And the course also provides three months’ ongoing mentoring from a successful entrepreneur, one-to-one support from a business adviser and networking opportunities with other young entrepreneurs.
Councillor Fairclough added: “This course offers a wide range of information and advice on how to turn a business idea into reality, and we hope it attracts a lot of interest from the many young people in Wirral whose ambition is to be their own boss.”
Abbie-Lou Austin, a graduate of a previous Be Your Own Boss Course, launched her Simply Dance and Fitness business in Seaforth in Sefton in April last year offering a range of drama and dance classes.
Abbie-Lou commented: “Taking part in the course was invaluable, not just because of the business skills I gained, but because the advice and mentoring support I received afterwords really motivated me to get things started.
“I’m so glad I did it – everything so far has been really positive and the business is going from strength to strength.”
Talent Match, supported by Big Lottery and the European Social Fund, is open to young people aged from 18-24 who live in Wirral, Liverpool or Sefton who are not currently in employment or at college.
